Business components are founded on the notion that complex business organizations can be decomposed into discrete into self-functioning logical units. Decomposing an enterprise into business components facilitates a logical understanding of business design and can be leveraged to provide finer levels of detailed analysis on how it operates. This involves a range of improvements, from evaluating and validating business organization structures, extending to ways of expressing dynamic relationships among business components, and finally, influencing the IT application base and infrastructure that realize the business intent.

RO-BPM: A Reconfiguration-Oriented Business Process Model

Reconfiguration capability of business models is one of the most important factors that influence the reconfiguration ability of enterprise information system. In order to improve dynamic and flexibility of business model, a reconfiguration-oriented business process model was put forward.

Basic elements of reconfiguration-oriented business process model, such as business object, business operation, business activity and business process were formally defined. Based on the analysis of basic characteristics of reconfiguration-oriented business process model, state transition space of business object was defined. Business activities were then divided into key business activities and auxiliary business activities according to the state transitions of business objects, and a business process could then be abstracted as the integration of a vertical business sub-processes consisting of key activities and horizontal business sub-processes consisting of auxiliary activities.

This integration could implement separation between frequent-changing parts and steady parts of business process. A classification of business process reconfigurations in reconfiguration-oriented business process model and the corresponding implementation mechanisms were studied in detail. A practical example was given to verify the effectiveness of this model.
